START SPREADING THE NEWS, RHUBARB IS A FRUIT.
While in the process of gathering some veggie sounds from Mitch and Kristine at Queen City Bakery for last night's rock and roll garden show, I learned that at some point in the 1950's the state of New York declared rhubarb a fruit, ya know, for tax purposes. You don't just drop a line like that on my blue mic and expect it to not completely change the course of the entire show. I had hoped to spend the evening talking about growing vegetables, more or less, but instead spent the night wondering how the state of New York feels about botany (as it applies to taxes). And what about the big apple itself? Is it a fruit in New York, or an aggregate berry, or maybe an intermediate rhizome? In the end I'm not sure what we decided exactly, but I am sure that we played some most wholesome free range rock and roll music. Check the playlist below the jump:
