MISTER HEAVENLY – "OUT OF LOVE"

Mister Heavenly

"We're not viewing this as a side project and we didn't handle the album like one. Here's a colorful answer. If the album were a t-shirt? Bobby Darin and Frank Booth on jet skis. At night. Nick Cage howling in the distance." – Ryan Kattner, Mister Heavenly

Mister Heavenly is a lot of things. First and foremost it's a band comprised of Nick Thorburn (Islands), Ryan Kattner (Man Man) and Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse). So, I suppose you could call them a supergroup, although they would prefer you didn't. They're one part internet buzz. Mostly because their first touring bassist was indie superstar and Bluth banana-slinger, Michael Cera. Cera is merely a friend of the band and doesn't appear on the album, nor is he a permanent member of the band. Thirdly, they're doom wop. That is, part '50s-inspired doo-wop and part apocolypse, explains Kattner (although he gives credit to Thorburn for the term).

To anyone who's familiar with Islands or Man Man, you should be pleasantly surprised with the record's outcome. Thorburn and Kattner's contrasting vocals make for interesting bedfellows, a polarity that led to their initial interest in colaborating. For a look into the record, check out the album promo below. It's chalk-full of tour footage, soundbites and Michael Cera.

Out of Love is out now via Sub-Pop.
