REAL ESTATE – "DAYS"

Real Estate

"You have two options, really—you can either make the record, and just do it how you want to do it, or you can not make the record. We weren't going to think about it so hard that we'd change what we were doing." – Martin Courtney, Real Estate

The pressure to deliver on a sophomore album is present for most bands. But in the case of Real Estate, we're talking about delivering on the heels of their much acclaimed self-titled debut. Not to mention that the recently signed to Domino records, right alongside some of their favorite artists. But lead songwriter Martin Courtney said he and his band mates don't feel that pressure bearing down on them.

"It's not that we were super-confident; it's just kind of hard to think about [living up to expectations] all the time," explains Courtney. With Days, Real Estate revisits their lo-fi surf-pop roots; delivering a more succinct and polished record. The same ambient guitar riffs and melancholy vocals that were present on Real Estate cascade through this album, taking you back to the New Jersey beaches and small towns that perhaps inspired their tunes.

Days is out today via Domino. Check out a live performance of "Green Aisles" from Days, below.
