In August we tape recorded a television special in a couple of old South Dakota barns. The first shoot was in a fancy barn on the Daugaard family farm near Sherman, SD. The second barn was on the Hunhoff family farm outside of Utica, SD. This podcast features bits and pieces from both shows.
News from Pierre talked to the Pumpkin Man of Codington County about the severe pumpkin shortage of 2015. The podcast also features a song about pumpkin pie, tape recorded live in the Mount Rushmore cafeteria by Kenny Putnam and Boyd Bristow. Enjoy the podcast and keep it rural.
This month’s Rock Garden Tour podcast features less talk and more witty banter about companion gardening. We also talked about the urban chicken ordinance in Wasta, SD. Condor played songs. Found object artist Steve Bormes talked about fusing baby doll arms with ancient Turkish yogurt churns. And Brian Bieber read a scientific pamphlet about robots with human hands. Enjoy the podcast and […]
It should come as no surprise that our #AnimalHusbandry show got pretty rowdy. Listen close to the show (see mp3 download below) and you can hear all sorts of rare and glorious animalistic type sounds. You’ll also hear the sounds of a bartender tossing glass bottles into a garbage can. Other sounds you’ll hear on this episode of the Rock Garden Tour […]
Look! The home opener of Rock Garden Tour's third season on SDPB Radio, tape recorded live from Latitude 44 in downtown Sioux Falls, SD. This one features less talk and more witty banter on the topic of prepping the soul. The show features haiku poetry, a parody song about Woonsocket by John Boylan, some ping […]
Our 2013 home opener, live from Latitude 44 in downtown Sioux Falls, went about as well as these things go. There was less talk, and more witty banter about a variety of things like tavern sandwiches and Operation Timber Strike and more. Thanks to special guest Dan Mahar for singing with some soul. And thanks to John Boylan for […]
This week's rock and roll garden variety podcast features a talk with Steve Bormes, a certified aborist, and John Boylan, an expert on Swamp Thing. It makes sense that we'd ask a Swamp Thing expert to join us in the wake of the recent ice storm, but why the certified arborist? That's what you're about […]
This week's rock and roll garden variety podcast features dead air with sound design by Captain Midnight. He's new at this but we think his audio mix digs okay, especially the one he designed to accompany Oil Can's free verse haiku. Other high points in this week's Rock Garden Tour podcast include an answer to a deep philisophical type question, some facts about […]
Last Saturday night on SDPB Radio we rebroadcast historic episode 34 of the original rock and roll garden show. If you don't recall, this is the one where News from Pierre (pictured above holding a newspaper) spends about 45 minutes searching for Badgerton, SD on a globe and two different maps. Classic! The new season of the Rock Garden Tour starts up […]
This week's Rock Garden Tour podcast asks a lot of deep, prodding type questions like "Who founded the community of Woonsocket, SD?" Or "Have you ever tried a deep fried tavern?" The podcast also features a performance of an original song about Woonsocket, and an interview with triple-double National Corn Dog Day champion John Boylan. […]
