YELLOW OSTRICH – "THE MISTRESS"

Yellow Ostrich

"I think The Mistress is definitely somewhat meticulous, in that I took a long time with it and spent a lot of time rearranging or reshaping certain parts to make them fit in better. I think it just came from my sort of perfectionist kind of mood i was in when making it, that I wanted every single part, and every instrument to serve a purpose in the song, and not have anything that was really superfluous or unnecessary." - Alex Schaaf, Yellow Ostrich

Hailing from Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Alex Schaaf started Yellow Ostrich while at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. Originally a solo project, Yellow Ostrich recently became a trio as Schaaf focused on making the project a full-time gig, which included bolstering their exposure by moving to New York City. Songs such as "Whale" immediately draw in the listener with its basic percussive beginnings and repetitious "ohs" to kick off the lyrics, making "Whale" an instant sing-a-long. But as the song builds and compounds elements, it flourishes to a beautiful payoff that has you clicking the repeat button. Watch Yellow Ostrich perform "Whale" live on Seattle's KEXP below.
